Make time to get the flu vaccine

If you work in direct contact with vulnerable people then being vaccinated against flu can help to avoid passing the virus to your clients.

Health and social care employees

The flu vaccination is offered to frontline healthcare workers in the NHS and those in social care with direct patient contact as a way to reduce the risk of staff contracting the virus and transmitting it to their patients and service users.

East Sussex County Council offers the vaccination to all their employees who can obtain the flu vaccination from a walk in service offered by pharmacies and can reclaim the cost flu vaccination by completing an out of pocket expenses claim.

For advice, guidance and campaign materials to support local staff flu vaccination campaigns. You can find out more from the following websites:

• UK Health Security Agency
• NHS Employers
• NHS England

Flu jab for carers

If you care for someone who is elderly or disabled, speak to your GP or a pharmacist about having a flu jab along with the person you care for. Read more about the flu jab for carers on the Carers UK website.

Personal assistants

Personal Assistants (PAs) are also entitled to a free flu vaccination.  To access the scheme, a PA will need to go to a GP practice or community pharmacy and tell them that they are PA.  PAs are also entitled to free COVID-19 boosters which can be booked online or by ringing 119. If you are asked to provide proof of  eligibility for PA flu or COVID vaccines, some of the things you could use are:

  • a letter from your employer
  • an ID badge
  • a payslip.
